The girls took charge....notes on Day 5...

Last evening happy hour took place on EverGreen....we had 13 in the salon...and the girls decided that we wanted to shop in Fernadina so we set the departure time for this morning at 7:30 AM....We have been rolling into port about 4 or so each day and thought we should get in a little earlier.....so the boys cooperated and we were all away by 7:15....

We did not get into St. Augustine, but several things made it special....as we passed the old fort on the waterfront, they shot off the cannons and we are sure it was just for us.....
Then after dinner, fireworks started going off near what appeared to be the downtown waterfront, and we all went up to the bow for a wonderful view.....and again we decided it was just for us.....isn't St. Augustine wonderful?
The marina was very nice and there were many boats that just made our Krogens look small....
So a few pics for the day.....first is the eagle that was just sitting on a small rise on the edge of the marshes...

Next is a picture of those at the party....left to right....Lee and Barb Fosset, Barbara Boykin, Helen, Pat Edmonds and Al and Susan"s daughter and son in law, who came down to meet them for dinner.  As you can see, the food is almost gone...

In the next picture, you see Al and Susan and their grandaughter.  On the right is Pat's husband Ted.

This last picture was taken as we went under an 80 foot high bridge...there were two girls sitting on the piling platform at the water line with no connection to the land...how'd they get there....they had a great close up view of all the boat traffic....hope their ride home shows up.

I get up at 3:3O AM tomorrow to make a 6 am flight out of Jacksonville to go back to Boise....so sad......

Day number 4 Saturday, April 19

Hello again....again the water is calm....

We have picked up Barb and Lee.....she brought homemade Lasagna and so we stayed aboard last night....calm winds, Kenny G on the IPod, candles on the aft deck and good company...all of a sudden it was almost ll pm!

Here are a few more pictures to enjoy.,.

This is a glimpse of how close we were so close together up in Vero Beach Marina....the post that is between our boats only disguises the fact that behind it, where the beam of our boats get wider, and there was only the width of a bumper to separate us and we had to push the boats apart to get that room!

For you sailors out there....this is a hint of how stong the winds were the first day we sailed....right out of the north....just the direction we were heading....Love ....Helen

Day number three....April 18

Look at our sunrise this morning!!!

New to me as a first time salt water cruiser....first thing when you pull into the marina for the evening is boat washdown.  Salt residue is everwhere....I mean little chunks you can put in a salt grinder were nestled in one of our portholes...later today, I may start to wash the inside teak to take the residue off of it....we had a lazy evening and went for dinner with Al, Sue, Jim and Barbara to a Brazilian restaurant that served all you can eat grilled meat.....as in pepper steak, "skirt" steak, lamb..pork...cornish hen, chicken, garlic beef...and the list probablyt went on ..,but we all got full....very different...the meat came out on a 2 1/2 foot long skewer and our waiter served pieces of it by sliding the meat chunks down the skewer with a pretty huge knife...we had a South American wine and followed all with a Flan.....Hungry yet?
The water is smooth today and we are heading for Datona where Paul's sister Barb and her husband Lee will join us for the weekend sail to Fernadina, Fl.

This is a view of our morning water...smooooth and calm....dolphins playing today.... and we go through a canal soon to take us into Mosquito Lagoon....Helen

It has been a long time, but we are now heading north!

A quick catch up on the month of March

Helen headed home to Boise on the 8th of March after the Sannibel Island Sailor's Valentine competition.  Paul headed back to the boat in Jensen Beach.  Helen was doing lots of spring cleanup on her yard.  Then her Mom became very ill after the extraction of a tooth....so ill that we went to the hospital....but after some medication changes and the magic of the antibiotics....   Mom is doing much better....but it was serious enough that Helen delayed her return to EverGreen and to Paul until April 7th.

The week following her return....Helen joined Paul in his efforts to finally set sail on the trip north....We have made plans to travel with two other Krogen owners until the boat reaches the Cheasapeake and the Soloman Islands.  First there is Arial...aboard ship are Barbara and Jim, who travel with their Boykin spaniel, Chessie and their cat, Merlin....and the other Krogenites are Al and Susan, who are aboard Twocan, and we are glad for the company.  Helen will depart the group when the "fleet" reaches just east of Jacksonville, Florida, to travel home to Boise again.

Wednesday, April 16th was "Sailing Day".....we left the Four Fish Marina at about 11 AM.....lots of wind out of the north and some light chop....but the boats did a great job of providing a smooth ride.  The real challenge came when we tried to dock in Vero Beach.....the width of the water between the end of the docks was about 62 feet...and our boats are 49 feet long overall...so cruising into the "fairway" as it is called and turning the boat into what was yet a very narrow slip was a true challenge. As we sat in the boat slip there was only about a foot between boats...and we had about a four foot jump to reach the dock if we wanted to go ashore...but the company was excellent...another Krogen owner Pat and Ted) aboard Seaclusion followed us up to Vero...and we all met for champagne and snacks after our sail. It was Pat's birthday.....Isn't life good?

Here are Ariel and Seaclusion behind us on "Sailing Day"....it is hard to tell, but there are tiny whitecaps on the Intercoastal water....but don't we look smooth?

Well...you read it right and we took a picture of EverGreen's first fill up to let you all see for yourselves!!!!
